Last week we shared a GAF video which detailed six signs of a failing roof. Shown above in this composite picture are the results of a roof inspection we did last winter in Grayslake, IL.
Here are some of the signs we found on this residential roof. We found the following damage among the asphalt shingles:
- The shingles have lost granules which is a sign of aging. There is also evidence of foot traffic causing a greater lose on some areas.
- Loose shingles which are also the sign of aging.
- Bruised and damaged shingles which need replacement.
- Nail pops through shingles.
- A gutter damaged a shingle (top row, second from right).
- Partially missing shingles.
On the metal roof above the entry door (see below) we found several missing ice guards as well as the paint which may lead to rust in the future.
The chimney needed tuck-pointing of existing brickwork and the chimney’s top plate was cracked and needed repairs.
