New Flat Roof Brought Up To Code At Highland Park Dealership

Last year we worked on the roof of a Maserati car dealer in Highland Park. It was an older roof which first needed a complete tear off.

After removal of debris and cleaning, we installed two layers of Mule-Hide Poly ISO 2.6 insulation board to bring the roof up to an R-30 insulation factor. This is currently required per the Illinois Energy Code for insulation above the deck in our heating zone (5).

Insulation Board Installation – Compliments of Mule-Hide

Cleaning the deck to make sure it is free of moisture and debris as well as deteriorated decking is important. Otherwise, these items might impede the proper performance of the insulation.

The insulation board was installed in proper pattern to manufacturer’s specifications. This included a brick pattern for the first layer with an overlapping brick pattern for the second layer. Drill point fasteners were used to properly secure the insulation to the deck.

As a final step, we applied a self adhesive 60 mil thick TPO membrane over the insulation. The membrane comes in 10 foot wide rolls. A robot hot air heat welding machine was used to join the seams together a form a watertight seal.
