We installed a new roof on a house in Lake Zurich about four years ago. This year we visited the residence again, this time to complete work on this beautiful gazebo (as shown above) in the back yard.
I focus your attention to the ‘before’ picture below and to the left. Notice the poor condition of the gazebo roof shingles. Although you can not see either, some of the cedar trim was also in disrepair and the cupola wood had been chewed through by squirrels who were nesting inside.
Note: In this instance, the cupola is a small dome resting on the top of the roof. They are used to add light and ventilation to the area below. Cupola also refers to other things such as gun turrets on tanks and round metal furnaces.
The homeowners chose GAF designer shingles, in a color matching the house shingles, to replace the existing ones. We also replaced the cedar trim where needed.
Most importantly, we were able to salvage the beautiful copper top which adorned the old cupola and we cleaned it. We designed and built a new cupola to highlight the peak of the roof.
In total, this makes for a combined, new stunning look. And the homeowners are thrilled with the results. These are some words used to describe the results:
“It (the roof) looks so perfect! It goes so well with the (house) roofing and the patio… We’ve had so many compliments already… We can’t believe the difference the better shingles made… We are just so pleased, we couldn’t be happier…”
